Cadena Stem Boxes - Humanitarian Engineering Outreach
Role: Designer and Organizer | Cadena Initiative (2025)
Tools: Arduino (optional modules), Everyday Home Materials
Overview:
The Cadena STEM Box project aims to bring engineering education to underserved schools and homes in Guatemala by providing experiment kits and DIY projects that align with their curriculum. In particular, the aim of the initiative is to send the kids projects that mainly use materials they can find in their own homes.
Engineering Process:
Designed low-cost, replicable STEM kits that rely primarily on household materials, allowing children to complete guided engineering projects even without lab equipment. Experiments/projects may include things such as plastic bottle rockets, which teach about flight and air pressure, or simple aluminum foil circuits with DIY switches.
Impact:
Empowers students with practical engineering exposure, fosters curiosity, and bridges global access gaps in STEM learning.
